Radiator Repair in Altamonte Springs, FL

Radiator Service From a Shop You Can Trust

The radiator is where your engine gets rid of its heat. When it leaks, clogs or cracks, the engine runs hotter on every drive. Our ASE-certified technicians inspect the radiator, test for leaks and tell you plainly whether it needs to be replaced.

Hot coolant flows from the engine into the radiator, where it passes through thin tubes surrounded by metal fins. Air moving across those fins pulls heat away before the coolant returns to the engine. Most modern radiators have plastic end tanks crimped onto an aluminum core, and the seams between them are a common leak point. We pressure test the radiator, check the fins and tanks, and look at how evenly the radiator heats up to spot internal clogs.

  • Radiator pressure test and leak inspection
  • Inspection of plastic end tanks, seams and core
  • Radiator replacement with quality parts
  • Radiator cap testing and replacement

Signs Your Radiator Is Failing

Radiator problems usually start small. Watch for these warning signs: See also our cooling system repair and belt and hose replacement services.

  • Coolant dripping from the front of the vehicle
  • Cracks or white crust along the radiator end tanks
  • Engine temperature creeping up on hot afternoons
  • Bent, crushed or corroded radiator fins
  • Coolant that looks rusty, sludgy or oily
  • Needing to add coolant more often than before

Florida Radiators Face Heat, Bugs and Debris

A radiator can only cool the engine if air can get through it. In Central Florida, that airflow gets blocked more than most people realize. Lovebug swarms in May and September can coat the grille and radiator fins, and road grit from construction zones on I-4 packs into the gaps over time.

Heat cycles take a toll, too. The plastic tanks on many radiators expand and contract every time the engine heats up and cools down. With our long, hot summers, that happens under high temperatures for most of the year, and the plastic can turn brittle and crack along the seams.

Why Florida Is Hard on Radiators

  • Lovebugs: their remains are acidic and sticky, and a heavy buildup can block airflow and corrode the fins if it is left on.
  • Long hot seasons: plastic radiator tanks go through constant heat cycles that can lead to cracks at the seams.
  • Road grit: sand and debris from busy roads and construction zones can bend fins and clog the front of the radiator.

Our tip: after lovebug season, gently rinse the grille and the front of the radiator with a garden hose, never a pressure washer.

Radiators FAQs

Most modern radiators use plastic tanks on an aluminum core, and they are not designed to be patched. Replacement is usually the reliable fix. We will show you where the leak is before recommending anything.
They can slow a tiny leak for a short time, but they can also clog the radiator, heater core and passages in the engine. We recommend fixing the leak properly instead.
Common signs are overheating at low speed or in hot weather, coolant that looks dirty, and a radiator that feels hot in some spots and cooler in others. We can test it to confirm.
On many automatic vehicles, the transmission fluid is cooled by a section built into the radiator. If that internal cooler fails, coolant and transmission fluid can mix, so we check for that whenever we work on the radiator.
