Oil Change in Altamonte Springs, FL

Oil Changes Done by Certified Technicians

An oil change is the simplest way to protect your engine, and it is also a chance to catch small problems early. At Zych’s Certified Auto, your oil change is done by ASE-certified technicians who take a real look at your vehicle while it is in the shop.

Engine oil lubricates moving parts, carries away heat and holds dirt in suspension until the filter can trap it. Over time, heat breaks the oil down and it loses its ability to protect. We use the oil type and viscosity your manufacturer specifies, install a new filter, lube chassis fittings on vehicles that have them, and check your other fluids, belts, hoses and tires so you know what may be coming up.

What Our Oil Change Service Covers

  • Drain and refill with the oil your manufacturer specifies
  • Conventional, synthetic blend and full synthetic oil
  • New oil filter and new drain plug gasket when required
  • Chassis and suspension lube on vehicles with grease fittings
  • Check of coolant, brake, power steering and washer fluids
  • Visual check of belts, hoses, tires and for oil leaks
  • Oil life monitor reset

Why Central Florida Driving Counts as Severe Service

Many owner’s manuals list two maintenance schedules, normal and severe. Most people assume they are normal drivers, but frequent short trips, stop-and-go traffic and extended driving in hot weather are often listed as severe conditions. That describes a lot of daily driving around Altamonte Springs, Maitland and Apopka.

Heat is the big factor. With about 110 days a year at 90°F or hotter, engines run hot and oil breaks down sooner. Short trips are hard on oil too, because the engine may not run long enough to burn off moisture, and our humidity adds to it. Following the severe schedule when it applies is inexpensive protection for your engine.

What Florida Driving Does to Engine Oil

  • High heat: hot engines and hot weather speed up the breakdown of oil and its additives.
  • Stop-and-go traffic: idling on SR 436 and US 17-92 keeps the engine hot with little airflow, which is harder on oil than steady highway driving.
  • Short trips and humidity: quick errands may not fully warm the engine, so moisture can build up in the oil.

Our tip: check your owner’s manual for a severe service schedule, since much of Central Florida driving fits it.

Oil Change, Filter and Lube FAQs

Follow the interval in your owner’s manual or your car’s oil life monitor. If your driving fits the severe service description, which is common in Central Florida, use the shorter interval.
Many newer engines require synthetic oil, and the manufacturer will say so in the owner’s manual or on the oil cap. Even when it is not required, synthetic oil holds up better in high heat.
Running old oil increases wear and can lead to sludge, which is hard on parts like timing chains, variable valve timing systems and turbochargers. Staying on schedule is much less expensive than those repairs.
Some vehicles have grease fittings on suspension and steering parts that need fresh grease. We lube those fittings on vehicles that have them. Many newer vehicles use sealed parts that do not need it.
