Headlight Repair in Altamonte Springs, FL

Headlight Repair So You Can See and Be Seen

Good headlights let you see the road and let other drivers see you coming. When one burns out, flickers or goes dim, you lose both. At Zych’s Certified Auto, our ASE-certified technicians replace bulbs the right way and track down the wiring and switch problems that make headlights fail again.

Headlights get power from the headlight switch or an automatic light sensor, through fuses, relays and often a body control module, to halogen, HID or LED bulbs in the front lamps. If a new bulb does not fix it, the cause is usually a melted connector, a bad relay, a failing switch or a module fault. We test voltage and ground at the lamp and use our Autel MaxiSys Ultra scanner on vehicles with computer-controlled lighting, so we find the real problem.

Headlights and Florida Rain

In Central Florida, you need your headlights in the middle of the afternoon almost as much as at night. Summer thunderstorms roll in nearly every day, and Florida law requires your headlights to be on whenever your windshield wipers are in use due to rain, smoke or fog. Daytime running lights alone often do not turn on your tail lights, so switching your headlights on matters.

Driving I-4 or SR 436 in a downpour, with road spray and standing water, is when a dead headlight hurts most. Florida has no state safety inspection, so a bad headlight can go unnoticed until you are caught in one of those storms.

Why Florida Is Hard on Headlights

  • Lights on with wipers: Florida’s lights-with-wipers law means your headlights run during many summer afternoons, which adds a lot of use to bulbs and switches.
  • Heat under the hood: high underhood temperatures dry out connectors and wiring behind the headlights, leading to loose or melted plugs.
  • Moisture and humidity: water that gets into a headlamp housing can corrode the bulb socket and shorten bulb life.

Our tip: replace headlight bulbs in pairs so both sides match in brightness and color.

Headlights FAQs

Yes. Florida law requires headlights on whenever your windshield wipers are in use due to rain, smoke or fog. Daytime running lights may not be enough, because on many cars they do not turn on the tail lights.
Repeated bulb failures often point to a poor connection, a corroded or heat-damaged socket, moisture in the housing, or touching the glass of a halogen bulb during install. We check the connector and voltage so the next bulb lasts.
Many aftermarket LED bulbs are not designed for halogen housings and can scatter light into oncoming drivers’ eyes while lighting the road poorly. We can talk through the options that fit your vehicle’s headlight design.
Flickering usually comes from a loose or corroded connection, a failing headlight switch or relay, or a charging system problem. If other lights or gauges also flicker, we also check the alternator and battery.
