Engine Repair in Altamonte Springs, FL

Engine Repair From a Shop That Has Seen It All

Engine trouble is stressful, and the first question is always whether it is worth fixing. Zych’s Certified Auto has been repairing engines in Altamonte Springs since 1976, and our ASE-certified technicians give you a straight answer based on what we actually find.

An engine depends on tight seals, correct compression, steady oil pressure and proper cooling. When one of those slips, you get leaks, noises, smoke or a loss of power. We start with testing, such as compression and leak-down checks, oil pressure readings and a computer scan, so we know which part of the engine is failing before we take anything apart.

What Our Engine Repair Service Covers

  • Oil leak diagnosis and gasket and seal replacement
  • Head gasket and cylinder head repair
  • Valve cover and intake manifold gasket replacement
  • Compression and cylinder leak-down testing
  • Engine mount replacement for vibration and clunking
  • Evaluation and repair of overheating damage
  • Engine noise diagnosis, including ticks, knocks and rattles

How Central Florida Driving Wears on Engines

Engines in Altamonte Springs, Apopka and Maitland deal with heat for most of the year. The Orlando area averages about 110 days a year at 90°F or hotter, and that extra heat bakes gaskets and seals until they harden, shrink and start to seep oil.

Overheating is the fastest way to turn a simple repair into a major one. A cooling problem left alone can warp a cylinder head or blow a head gasket. If your temperature gauge ever moves into the red, pull over safely and shut the engine off rather than trying to make it home.

Local Conditions That Lead to Engine Repairs

  • Stop-and-go traffic: crawling along I-4 and SR 434 means long idle times with little airflow, which keeps engine temperatures high.
  • Flooded roads: driving through deep standing water after a storm can pull water into the air intake, which can seriously damage an engine.
  • Lovebug season: swarms in May and September clog the grille and radiator fins, cutting the airflow your engine needs to stay cool.

Our tip: check your oil level every few fill-ups, because an engine that runs low on oil in our heat wears out much faster.

Engine Repair FAQs

It depends on what failed, the overall condition of the vehicle and your plans for it. We test first and lay out the facts so you can make the call. Many engine problems, like oil leaks and gasket failures, are very repairable.
The most common cause is overheating, which warps the metal surfaces the gasket seals. Age and heat cycles also wear gaskets down. Signs include white exhaust smoke, coolant loss and overheating.
A small leak can grow, and oil dripping onto hot exhaust parts can create smoke or a burning smell. Leaks also mean the engine can run low on oil between changes. It is worth having it checked so you know where it is coming from.
Do not try to restart it. Restarting an engine that may have pulled in water can cause serious internal damage. Have it towed in so we can check it first.
